Today I checked out Cafe M near Fourth Street in Berkeley. I’ve been here a couple of times in the past and have generally enjoyed their food.
It isn’t often that you can find outdoor seating at a Berkeley cafe but Cafe M has plenty, perfect for people watching. The indoor seating is spacious and comfortable and the staff is always friendly. Cafe M’s menu combines good ol’ American comfort food with a modern-day twist. {Note: the menu on the website does not seem to be up-to-date with the one at the restaurant, but does give a good idea of the options} The menu doesn’t give a lot of options for people with dietary restrictions, but I was able to figure out something on the light-ish side. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich sans cheese and bacon. The chicken was nicely marinated, although it was heavy on the butter and aioli. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good aioli. But when the bread gets a bit soggy, that is a sign of too much goodness. Nonetheless it was tasty and I would order it again.
My colleague ordered the grilled salmon cobb salad. The portions were generous and came with a topped off with a big ol’ chunk of avo. The salmon was cooked to a pink-deliciousness. Someone else next to us had the crispy tacos, which looked amazing.
Next time.
